Titoki

Titoki is a legacy project — a generational family beach house designed to honour the memory of a beloved husband and father. The family’s vision was to bring to life the dream he held for their favourite place, creating a retreat for children, grandchildren, and friends to enjoy together for years to come.

This project focuses on alteration, reuse, and thoughtful expansion. The original garage structure has been upgraded and reclad, retaining its footprint while introducing new life and resilience. A complementary new wing forms the heart of the home, housing the main living spaces. Between the two, a sheltered outdoor living area connects the buildings, creating an inviting space for gathering year-round.

The material palette reflects both practicality and coastal character — a mix of robust plywood board and batten cladding, striking Purpleheart timber rainscreens to the gable ends, and durable finishes designed for the realities of beach life. Inside, polished concrete floors and plywood linings provide a hard-wearing yet warm backdrop, perfectly suited to the energy of young families and relaxed coastal living.

Titoki is more than a beach house — it’s a place of shared memories, connection, and legacy.
